Panasonic Lumix DMC-SZ7, we have tested
At the beginning of this year Panasonic presented the first two models of the new range SZ , both very similar. The Lumix SZ1 SZ7 and keep few differences between them, but with some more power in the case of the first, which is what we have had occasion to prove.
The Lumix SZ7 is included within the ultrathin compact, lightweight , fully automatic and does not forsake or a sleek design and a powerful performance for a seemingly simple camera. By the way, has a sensor Live MOS 14.1-megapixel , but there is more to say.
Lumix SZ7, small, slim and very light
After a few days to test the feeling is that is this compact that fits in your pocket, you always can accompany you and especially you hardly notice that you are carrying. And is that its size is really small, very thin (especially if we consider a zoom lens containing no less than ten increases) and especially light .
As light is the Lumix SZ7 it gives the feeling of great fragility. It is well made this point so that its portability is complete. And she succeeds. With battery and memory card included, their weight is 133 g only . And its thickness is two inches (21 mm).
The design follows the usual line of Lumix, although the plastic is present, small metal details, the purpose and have a sleek finish. And here I would say it appears to be much more camera than it really is, with its appeal to first look is well done.
A zoom lens to take into account
As advanced, despite being a compact automatic unpretentious , does contain some high performance and surprising find in a camera case. Starting with the excellent Leica zoom lens signed.
It is an objective LEICA DC VARIO - ELMAR with a 10x optical zoom . But also stands out as a wide angle 25 mm , which is rare in this range of cameras. What we get is a 25-250 mm equivalent lens, which is not negligible, as it offers power despite its size. And therefore it will be a benefit in traveling helpful , giving us great versatility with its angular and long focal length.
In addition, this lens has stabilization (known Mega OIS system Panasonic's OIS), very interesting moves to avoid capture when using the zoom at maximum focal length or shooting in low light situations.
Lumix SZ7, fast and modes for almost all
The Lumix SZ7 is designed to be very versatile, ideal for travel, as indicated. The fact start quickly and also have a way to blast up to 10 fps gives us more versatility in different situations.
Additionally, I found fast focus. Obviously does not reach the heights of her older sisters, but more than effective in most situations. However, with more problems in more extreme situations where the autofocus assist light is needed.
Also, something that really stands out though is nothing new, is the inclusion of multiple automatic modes. Besides the usual string of scene modes, stresses its ability to HDR , the miniature effect, creative retouching (with multiple filters) and panoramic . Offers assistance to capture both horizontally and vertically.
The least important
Despite efforts by combining features Panasonic's very comprehensive and most larger ranges own, has some shortcomings. Although in general are common in similar compact, as the high presence of noise , the more difficulty focusing in low light, improved dynamic range and significant loss of image quality in poor lighting conditions.
The highlight on the negative is its screen . It is one of the first things that attracts attention when you turn. After adjusting the brightness is not a sufficient resolution to a more serious problem. Its image quality is poor and forced to rely on the results we can see then calmly on the screen of your computer.
Colors very attenuated, despite being a display of 3 inches and 460,000 dots of resolution . It gets worse when viewed from an angle, not necessarily very marked. If no front sight, the screen does not offer a decent quality and very difficult to know if our membership is focused, offering very muted tones.
It is a shame as the screen being the main element of the camera when shooting and viewing, this detracts much the whole. I would say too. Something that also affects the time to record videos, and that allows recording Full HD which is already noticeable. The first impression is that the videos are nothing special, but after seeing them on your computer you realize that this is the correct file format AVCHD to 1080p, and with stereo sound.
Lumix SZ7: Conclusions
It is a compact, very light, well built , with a powerful zoom lens, especially its ability to corner , many automatic modes (especially interesting is the pan) and fast drive , focus and shutter (not so much when using zoom) . Ideal as a companion for those seeking a compact for travel.
Very versatile, with good results in shots with good light and with a correct answer in the video recording. We met up with worse results in low light situations where the sensitivity by raising ISO makes you lose image quality and signal and noise is very noticeable from 800 ISO , but is capable of firing up to 3200 ISO . And as we indicated we must ensure our catches well as the screen is not very reliable and offers a quality commensurate with the overall results.
